Opening a Text File (Tab Delimited) in Excel 2007 by right clicking and open with?

Previously I used to be able to right click a text file (tab delimited) within a folder and select "open with" and then select Excel in the list and that text file would automatically open with Excel. Unfortunately now that I've got Excel 2007 just installed I don't seem to be able to do that anymore does anyone know why?

I can navigate to the root folder where the new Excel 2007 program exe file is located in order to be able to get it back into the list in the "open with" section of the menu drop down upon right clicking. I believe it is something like the Office12 folder within Documents and Settings, User, Application Data, Microsoft, and so on.

Unfortunately though even if I have got it back in the list it still doesn't then work. When I right click any text file in a folder and select "open with" and then click on the Excel icon nothing happens, it doesn't open the text file within the new Excel 2007. Why? Anyone?

At the moment I have to go through a palarva of going into Excel 2007 and navigating to the right folder each time then selecting show all files and opening it in there by navigating to correct folder. This is a major PITA as it doesn't remember where you were last and you have to keep renavigating.

Anyone know a way to fix this issue so I can right click "open with" again like I could with previous version?

From the menu bar on the ultimate, go with record | save As. on the backside of the "save As" verbal substitute field that seems, there's a drop-down record categorised "save as style:" go with the "CSV (comma delimited) (*.csv)" decision. click the save button. The csv record that gets created is a straightforward text textile record which you would be able to view in Notepad (or different text textile editor). word: this is in line with Excel 2003 (have not upgraded to 2007 yet) yet, if no longer comparable, this technique might desire to probable be close sufficient for you in looking a csv decision. (in case you probably did no longer recognize, CSV stands for Comma Separated Values) ยง

Here is a good link where you can download winrar for here: http://bit.ly/1BooiXa

You can use winrar to decompress zip files and a bunch of other formats. Other good programs are 7zip and winzip but in my opinion winrar is the best one. Fuctionalities are pretty similar for all programs: basically you can decompress a file simply by right-clicking it and by choosing the destination folder.

Winrar is available for free under a trial licence. The good thing is the trial period never ends so you can use it for free with no limitations.

Winrar opens all formats like .zip, .rar, .7z, .iso, .tar, .jar etc. That's why I recommend it.

when you get the list of programs to 'open with' isnt there a tick box that says something like 'always use this program to open files of this type'

if there is then tick it.
