most versions of Windows 8 come with Windows Mail pre-installed. This application is different than what users of Microsoft Outlook or Hotmail are used to using. Windows Mail 8 uses the live tile system that Windows 8 created. Live tiles are what Microsoft has called the squares that are on the main screen of Windows 8.
This application is compatible with all the major email clients. Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and Outlook accounts are easily integrated by inputting the account name and password information of the user. The program runs ultra-fast and allows users to quickly skim through their emails. The Microsoft Mail app also syncs with the built-in calendar, people, and messaging apps that Microsoft also includes in Windows 8. This built-in integration out-of-the-box allows users to swiftly start accessing their emails on their new installation of Windows 8.
Touch Screen Compatibility
Due to Windows 8 heavily featuring touch screen capabilities, those with touch screen versions of Windows 8 can now type emails straight from their touch screen compatible devices easily.
Multiple Email Apps Located in the Windows Store
One of Windows 8's bigger feature was the introduction of the Windows Store. This store is similar to Apple's App Store and the Google Play store in that it is loaded with applications that are specifically designed to run on the user's hardware. If a user wants to try out a Windows 8 compatible email-client that is not Windows Mail, they can simply search the Windows Store.
A couple of examples of innovated email apps from the Microsoft Store include AgelessEmail and GmailAlerts. AgelessEmail shows the user's contacts as tiles and shows if they have new emails from each specific contact. GmailAlerts uses the live tile system to give alerts to the user anytime they receive an email from their Gmail account. Windows 8 is still relatively new and more and more creative email apps are sure to come down the pipeline which take advantage of Windows 8's tile and touch screen features.
