It seems like every time my laptop shuts down, updates...configures updates again there is almost instantly new updates and it bugs me to go through the whole tawdry process again. If I deactivate check for updates it jugs bugs me to reactivate it all the time :(

Could I have a virus or something or does this happen to everyone.

I just lost some unsaved documents because the blasted thing auto restarted while I was in the shower.

happening to me too.

i only turn off pc at bedtime.

every night for about 2 weeks now there is always an update icon on shutdown button, i wouldnt turn off updates as some are important. in update options pick around 10pm for updates to be installed and do it at bedtime

next morning you shouldnt get those annoying pop ups about updating.

its not a virus.

you should do a full virus scan once a week over night as well to keep your pc clean

There are monthly updates which include the MRT (Malicious software Removal Tool) definitions update. This also runs a scan as soon as the database has been updated.

If you have MS Office then there are monthly updates for the Outlook junk email filter.

There are also standard security updates.

You can change the options so that Automatic Updates just download but asks you whether you want to install them. Alternatively you can turn off Automatic Updates and run them manually at a time that suits you.

Not sure what to tell you. I run Vista and I only get update on Patch Tuesday, well in my case they come on Wednesday. But in any case, just once a month.

You can turn off auto updates, and then just check on the second Tuesday of each month.

You have your automatic updates turned off so Vista keeps trying to install them, go to My com puter there you can configure your update options, turn them on or off. You can also look at your update history. Better get Window 7.

There is no new updates every day, apparently your system fails to install some updates and it reconfigures every time you start.Look at the log which updates have problem and when you see the "new updates available" right click on them and select "hide update"
