Ok i've been puzzled by this for some time now why is my internet download speed slow? ...My internets potential speed is 344-430kbps with 155-244kbps the lowest,. yet my download speed is only 3-9kbps??? the fastest i got was from rapidshare downloading a 100mb file at 44kbps but in other sites like depositefile its crap! Before i could manage 20kbps from Depositefile but when i switched to wireless it became SOOO slow! yet it loads my browsers and youtube(and other media sites) quite fast.

Please any tips/advice is much welcome
Thanks in advance.

switch your wireless encryption method or remove it altogether for the purpose of testing how it is impacting your speed.

do a trace route to the source networks to find out where the congestion starts example -

start --> run ---> cmd --->

type tracert

tracert yahoo.com

Do you use P2P software? Such as Torrents, Limewire, Frostwire etc? These use the maximum amount of bandwidth that's possible and bleed it through your modem so you have no bandwidth left for anything else. Is it just downloads? Or is the whole internet slow? If it's just the downloads, it'll be a problem with the website you're downloading from and not the internet. Are you running other things through your router simultaneously? Such as an Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Phone, Printer etc. The allocated speed of your Internet is shared between everything. Not 1mb per unit. Hope this helps.

Strange...have you scanned for viruses or trojans and the such?

Could always try AVG Free at free.grisoft.com and then maybe download Spybot Search & Destroy. Worth a try I guess. Have you tried resetting you modem?

It is your wireless card (Some Cards Cap DL rates massively)
