When i say repair, i mean the second repair option, not the first using the recovery console. Cheers

Yes, you'll need to put in the CD key. The key needs to match the version of the disc that you used to repair; for example, you can use a Windows XP Media Center Edition CD to repair a Windows XP Professional installation but you need to use the Media Center key instead of the Professional key. XP Home CDs can only repair XP Home installations, and XP Home installations can only be repaired by XP Home CDs.

No, For just repairing the files, it does not require the key to do. All the repair option does is restore you primary system files so windows can load. The only time you should have to enter the key in again is if you do a complete operating system reinstall.

Try it, and see what happens.
If you have a legal Windows disk, which came with a legal Activation Code, or your PC came with it's own Windows Recovery disks, you really have nothing to worry about. But, if you know that you are trying to use a Windows disk that didn't come with your PC, don't.
Order replacement a Recovery XP disk from the PC manufacturer, by PC model number.

Yes. You need to enter the key after a complete install.

If you need to find the key used to install your current windows OS this little free app will get it for you. I have used it quite a few times and I highly recommend it. It is called Magic Jelly Bean Finder and you can download it here. http://download.cnet.com/Magical-Jelly-Bean-Keyfinder/3000-18487_4-10079600.html.
