Question:
Microsoft Office or Open Office: Which do you use?

I used to use Microsoft Office since I'm used to it but I've recently converted to OpenOffice since it's free and seems to equal MS Office. Which do you use and is there any difference between the two?

I have used both for over a year now and both have there strong points. One thing to note is that MS Office will only open MS Office doc's and OpenOffice will open and edit several different formats of doc's. In my opinion they are both equal. I plan on using OpenOffice only on my next laptop.

I've used MS Office since 1997 and intend to stick with it (even though I do not like MS Office 2007 and it's aggravating ribbon). Microsoft is the most widely used software in the world and because I take work back and forth, it is important to me that my work be compatible with others. If you are using Open Office for home use, I don't see a problem with it. Microsoft probably just offers more options which you may never need.

Both. I have MS Office on my main computer that I use for school because there are a few fancier features in MS Office than in Open Office that I sometimes need.

However on my other computers I just run Open Office. It does 99.9% of what I need for free.

I also have one computer that is running Linux and has NO Microsoft products on it. I use this as a test machine because I support a couple of companies that only use Linux, and need to stay familiar with it.

Open Office is a quality program and a good alternative for someone who can not afford MS Office (or just wants to avoid MS products.)

Yes there is difference such as some features which are in microsoft office are not there in open office.

But the difference is not much, with the day to day use of open office you can also get used to it and can use it just as simply as you used microsoft office. So using open office is also not at all a bad decision.Actually it is good that you will get the knowledge of two software use.

I use Office 2003... I will never use 2007. The stupid task ribbon thing is absolute nonsense. They totally lost the plot when they made that version. OpenOffice is alright, but I prefer MS Office 2003 for most of what I do.

If you use Office at purely basic level then OpenOffice will probably be OK for you, but if you tend to use shortcuts and more advanced features, then there is no comparison - Microsoft rules.

I like Microsoft better because it's a good product and most people use it. Most of the time, we use office products to work with others such as sharing the files. It's more simple with Microsoft.

Open Office, in my experience is much slower and buggy. I think it's good for people who are advance computer users, such as the linux people.

I use MS Office 2003 at work and Openoffice.org at home. Openoffice.org Calc still feels clunky compared with Excel, though... I like the no-nonsense Gnumeric for spreadsheet.

somebody has already presented you with the link to Open place of work. I even have been utilising it fo 4 years and function had very few compatibility issues in that element. I presently have the two MS place of work and OO on my device and, to be easy, use OO around seventy 5% of the time. issues seem quite glitch loose. And in case you opt for loose stuff, learn the Mozilla website, which could provide a browser (Firefox), that i think outperforms IE, and a mail utility (Thunderbird), that I even have had many reliable comments approximately.

I used MS office 2003 & trying to used with 2007. 2007 has more feature but not user friendly. Open office I tried once but I feel it may take time to used to with it. I find open office seems ok but you have to used to with it. If you have any problem with MS office any body can help with it but with open office you may find imited people to help.
