I can't run e-sword without emulation and it typically don't work very well in emulation.

Start-up is not free of errors. I typically get error messages before getting the desktop.

I am not into compiling kernels to get optimal performance and/or support. I want to just compute without having to go through all that nonsense.

So why should I use linux?????????????

Using Linux is a choice. I use it because it suits my needs and I happen to like it. If you like it feel free to use it, if not then maybe it is not for you, and there is nothing wrong with that.

You don't have to if you don't want to.
