After placing in a new HD in my laptop how do I install Windows XP?

Question

I'm looking to get a new HD for my laptop. I don't plan on saving anything but I do have things to install after I get my old hard drive replaced.

After I put the new HD in how would I go about installing Windows XP?

Once again, I do not plan of transfering any old files. I just want a new HD and start from scratch, and want to know how to properly install my operating system and I'll go from there by reinstalling software.

First fdisk it. (make an active partition,NTFS or FAT 32)

Second format it.

Third put your windows CD in and follow the directions.

You can also format your drive by installing your windows. it will ask you if you want to format the partition before installing windows.



And you don't need an operating system to fdisk



I Think you can also fdisk when you put in your windows CD.

just make sure you have an active partition for your operating system.

If you removed the hard drive, you won't have an operating system to run fdisk under.



Put in the hard drive. Put in the Windows disk. Boot the computer.

set your bios to boot from cd rom and just insert your windows disc and follow instructions, be sure to create and format a partition in ntfs format, i created my partition as big as it would let me. it is a very straight forward process but is time consuming, it is all done from the windows disc. I hope this helps
