I would stay with Windows 7 or add more memory before upgrading to 10. Windows 10 likes a lot of memory as there is a lot of services always running unless you know how to manipulate thm.

While I like Window 10 a lot more and it will not be that long before the other vesions are not supported, I feel your computer is a little shy on memory, Memory is not that expensive these days and will add a great deal of performance to your computer.

I would reinstall what every came with the computer and not buy either and spend some money on memory then upgrade to 10 when you can afford to.

Since your PC came with Explorer in stalled, that is probably the best system to run on it.

If you decide to revert to one of the earlier versions you will need to do a format of the hard drive and a clean install of the earlier version of Windows. You can not install the early version over Win 10.

Before you make a change, make sure you have the needed drivers for all your hardware. If no Windows 7 or 8 drivers are available, you have to remain with Windows 10.

Most often when Explorer crashes, it is an issue with drivers. Before changing the version of Windows try reinstalling the different drivers on your current Win10 install. That will probably resolve the issue.

Also if you have not virus scanned the unit, do that first.
2015-11-11 18:04:15 UTC
Do not get Windows 8 or 8.1. I would probably say Windows 7 if you had bugs with 10. There is nothing wrong with Windows 7 (except for the libraries in file explorer). 10 only had a newer look to be honest. All the icons are updated. Just don't get Vista or anything 8.

Those 4 GB or RAM... No...

The Core i7 could work though

I would choose Windows 7, because I've seen computers with better everything become difficult to use when they upgrade.

Although Windows 10 is very innovative, you should wait before you upgrade, maybe get a new PC at some point.

You have the minimum requirements for Windows 10 and Windows 7. I'm running Windows 10 on my Laptop which is 2.2GHz Duel Core and I think it's so much faster and better than Windows 7. However Windows 7 is pretty secure and I doubt you will have any problems with it at all. I've had no problems with 10 yet though...

Use windows 7
brayden
2015-11-11 10:56:40 UTC
Just based on those specs you posted, either system will run.

Which you get is up to you and what you want

But if you go with Win 7 or Win 8 you will have to buy it. The only exception to this is if you installed Win 10 less than 30 days ago and if so you can use the go-back feature to return to your previous OS.

Not sure why your IE keeps crashing. That's a bit strange. Does it do so every time you open it or only certain things you open with it? Even though IE comes with Win 10 as well as the new browser Edge, perhaps you'd be better using Edge instead? Or maybe install Firefox?

You can certainly reinstall Win 10 and 99% of the time re-installations of Win 10 have cleared up the vast majority issues. The link for getting it to do just that is here:

Windows is always historically best after a generation of its os is skipped. So this os should be supposedly better than win8. providing your pc hardware meets its requirements. I would suggest waiting until the first service pack is released. For maximum stability. The new edge is buggy. My scroll mouse touch pad was not working. I switched back to 8.1 which is fast and stable for my older laptop. At the moment id say you'd see faster boot and response times with 8.1 if you can put up with the old school start menu. while 10s bugs are ironed out in the next sp.

There are more crap versions of windows than there are decent ones now. If there is nothing wrong with what's on your machine now, Wait about 6 months+ until you find out all the bugs in stuff in any newer version, then decide. You don't have to have the latest windows anything, and the more people buy when something comes out the more microshaft will keep making crap. That is what all of you are telling them. If you buy retail and it has 10 on it and they say "you can't change it", lol, don't buy it.
2015-11-12 12:36:37 UTC
Just upgraded to 10 with pretty much the same specs on a 2 yr old....not much difference in performance between 7 and 10 except 10 is always updating at weird times

I guess u must prefer windows 8.1

cuz 64 os takes 2gb ram for no reason and windows 10 takes more than 2 gb

but the working styles and other stuffs are not much different in windows 10 so prefer 8.1

I guess this is a laptop. So for and HDD best is windows 7. What i would recommend is to get an SSD and install Windows 10 on it ,Windows 10 works much different on SSD than on HDD (Personal experience).

windows 10 will run smoother and better. Windows 7 will give you more control over your system. For example 7 does not force update.

Windows 10 is proving itself not to be as stable or as usable as it should be. The list of known faults is growing so I wold go with 7 for at least 8 months more by which time either Microsoft will have resolved it or gone out of business.

Windows 10 is recomended for your pc beacuse your pc has good specs and it could make use out of Direct x12

I don't get why everyone recommends 10. Until July, if you get Windows 7, you can upgrade to 10 for FREE. This means that if you get Windows 10 and don't like it, you're SOL. If you get 7 and don't like it, you can always upgrade to 10.

Get Windows 10. You obviously had a corrupt install. Give 10 another shot as you won't regret it.
Bob
2015-11-12 15:20:44 UTC
duh 10,it's free

also do you have touch because windows 8/8.1 is for touch-screeners

windows 7 is almost the same as windows 10 but 10 has more and newer features

anyways do not get anything less than 7 because support ended for that

finally did you know that microsoft came out with microsoft edge which is way better than internet explorer
?
2015-11-13 12:24:12 UTC
At this point in time there is no critical reason to have Win10. It does indeed have bugs to sort out as I've often been witness to agreeing to be a Win10 guinea pig in order to receive a free O/S upgrade. If you don't mind the issues and you want to assure software continuity and support into the future (i.e. microsoft software updates to directx and edge) then now is the time as the O/S is apparently a limited time give-away. Otherwise Win7 is a rock solid choice with everything you need and the popularity required to at least push extended support (mostly security fixes) far into the future.

Use 7 That's Better.
2015-11-13 08:33:46 UTC
Windows 8.1 OEM version is recommended. Stick with Windows 7, if it was pre-installed. Wait til Feb. 2016 before upgrading to Win10, Win10 is buggy.

Make sure to check your privacy settings in Win8.1 or Win10.
