Ok, I know how find and replace in Excel.

There trouble is when I try to replace 2 with a word it not only replaces the single 2 but the 2 in 12 and 22 as well.

I just want to replace the single number 2. I have different words for 12 and 22.

If the cells contain only the numbers and no associated text, then in Find and Replace, click the Options button and check "match whole cells".

If there is associated text, such as "I am 22 years old", then use spaces. Use " 22 " for when the number is in a sentence. If you have instances where the 22 is at the beginning or end of sentences, then you will need to do two more Find and Replace's for "22 " and " 22".

2 options.

First option, just start with your higher digit numbers first. 2222 first, then 222, then 22, then 2.

Second option, after bringing up the Find and Replace window, click Options and check the box by "Match entire cell contents".

The 2nd option works if your cell ONLY has numbers listed in them. Since "2" would be the only thing in the cell, Excel will only replace 2 with your word and leave 12, 22, etc., alone.

Excel usage is meaning ful if you use it correctly. Excel will take all the 2s in your work sheet. If suppose, your search is confined to one column, then select that column only and then use the find and replace. Even in that column, when you are using find and replace, instead of using replace all use replace only. Like wise , using Find Next instead of Find all will be correct, in finding the exact cell

format the cells better

like as a Number with fixed width ie leading zeros so 2 is 02
