1. no. Programs are compiled to run with certain fonts libraries, support programs, and not conflict with other programs.

2. About 40% or more of all the 135,430 Open Source programs at http://sourceforge.net have also been ported to the Microsoft API.

3. GNU/Linux can run UT2004, as the third CD in the box contains the Linux files! TUX got games! FreeCivilization by Sid Meiers, tons more, are at http://transgaming.org/gamesdb

Remember, the earliest games were played on CP/M and it's decendant Unix and DOS OSes!

Recommend http://pclinuxos.com which has included emulators like Wine, to run games, that are Win32 API compatible.

Doom, Quake, Quake servers, Star Craft, Warcraft, and more run fine. See the URL above.

"Fedora" is the Red Hat company's version (usually called "distro", short for "distribution" by the more 'techie' users) of the operating system Linux. Several other versions of Linux are available as well.

What happens to all the software you have bought? Well, that depends. Each piece of software you have bought should have a set of "System Requirements" listed on the package or somewhere in the documentation. If the software requires Windows, then you might be able to get the software to run using a "Windows emulator" like "WINE".

Otherwise, it's like trying to play a dvd in a cd-rom drive.... it just ain't gonna work.

XP is not open source, open source means that you can litterally re-write programing codes for that operating system and create a new customized version of that operating system and even publish it, which is totally legal with linux. However microsoft operating systems are non-open source so you cant change the code, and if you can it is illegal! Hope this helps ya! Also you can use open software on open source operating systems as long as it is compatible. Microsoft and linux are now starting to make cross compatible software for eachother!

Most programs for linux will work for fedora. There is no open source Xp, infact, the only way to get a free windows os, is BETA. Many programs that you have for windows will not run in linux, how ever, SUSE linux has a program (the name escapes me) that allows you to build a "Virtual Computer", on that virtual computer inside linux, you can install XP. Or you could partition your hard drive to have multiple operating system. have fun, linux is GREAT, even though I am getting VISTA!

Fedora is a version of Linux.

FOSS is not an organisation, it's just an acronym.
