This is Windows 2000 NT. I have forgotten the administrators password and need to reformat and reinstall windows. The cd is not bootable or I dont know how to do it because no matter what I try, when i reboot it always starts windows and asks me for the admin password. I cannot even create a startup or boot disk without the password

Enter the BIOS and set the CD ROM as your primary drive.

A lost password: Windows includes a hidden Administrator account that can be used for problems with other accounts. You can access it by restarting the computer into safe mode.

First, restart the computer. As it starts, repeatedly press the F8 key (some computers instead require the Delete or Esc key). Instead of the familiar Windows screen, you will see a text-only Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode. Then press Enter.

Select the Administrator account. By default on most computers, it requires no password. Once logged in, you can change the password of the account you normally use.

To make the change: click Start, Run.

In the box, type ‘control userpasswords2’ (without the quotes) and click OK.

Select your normal account name in the list.

Click the Reset Password button. You will be prompted for a new password. You can restart the computer and use the new password on your normal account.

If you're completely locked out of your computer, you'll need software. Such services include Login Recovery (http://www.loginrecovery.com/), FastCrack (http://www.fastcrack.com/), and NT Password and Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/). Each is free. They make use of boot disks that you can download to a floppy or burn to CD. Of course, you'll have to use some other computer to do the downloading.

Once you've got access to your computer, set a new password through Windows.

To do this: click Start, Control Panel.

Double-click User Accounts.

Select your account and click ‘Change my password.’ You'll be prompted for a new password.

You'll also have the opportunity to enter a password reminder. It should trigger your memory if you ever forget your password. But the reminder should not be descriptive enough to allow others to determine your password.

Use the setup utility of your hdd to make the computer to boot from cd. Then, use the CD, and then use a bootable cd to enter the os. If you really cannot enter the os, use a Cd like ubuntu or Knoppix to erase the data on the drive first. They are open source os's and they will do the erasing part. After that, its your choice for the OS.

If you dont know the passcode for entering setup, remove the battery on the motherboard and keep it out for about 10 mins and then replace it. That might erase the password.

Good luck

When your p.c. boots, you can hit the delete key, or whatever key puts you into setup. Change the boot order once in setup so that it looks at the CD before the hard drive. If you can get your hands on a windows98 startup floppy, those can be handy to boot from, they will support booting from CD.

If you really wanna wipe something out, search out the free program "Autonuke", and run that. Then when you boot up, your Windows will automatically format the drive if you figured out how to boot from CD.

She's no longer allowed to have your password, its like hackin into an e mail it is prohibited. So it is not a solid thought. i'm a woman and that i does not ask for it. it relatively is rather strange various women choose the password. if she has the password and a woman chum of yours talks to you , it is going to reason problems.

restart the PC. hit the 'delete' key. standard PC should enter the BIOS by delete key. if it is a branded pc, try F1(HP),F2(ACER),F8(COMPAQ) or F10(OTHERS).

next under 'boot order', select CDROM as the first boot device

put in the OS CD that you wish to install in the cd tray

Restart the PC and format the drive using the OS CD setup option
