Ok so you're probably sniggering at how easy it is to uninstall AVG right? Well i'm not exactly computer ignorant so it is a bit of a problem here it goes.

Ok first i want to download firefox and msn, but my computer never lets me download things, i can't even open attachments from emails. I research the internet and find that there are more people who've had this problem and they also have the answer uninstall avg!

I go into uninstall avg (version 8.5 btw) in the control panel, everythings fine and running smoothly until the loading ends,

"Uninstall Failed"

"1 error and 1 warning occured. Click Details to show more information"

Clicked details

"Local machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Warning: Checking of state of the item file avgcsrvx.exe failed.
File opening failed. %FILE% = ""
Error 0xe001042c
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgcsrvx.exe: creating backup....
Error 0x80070005 %DESTINATION% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgcsrvx.exe.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgcsrvx.exe""

Back to the original error page

"the computer must be restarted in order to complete the installation"

I restart the computer, it comes back up.. avg is still there and i try to uninstall it again and the exact same thing happens.

I decide to search the net in order to find a solution, every single source suggest i download this uninstaller thing.. but here's the kicker.. i can't download anything because of AVG in the first place!!!!!

I'm pretty pissed off, every single person who had my problem could atleast download and wanted to get rid of avg for a different reason, soooooo i decide to try and restore my system

I can only take it back to mid december and avg was put onto the computer months and months and months ago, so there's nothing i can do...

please someone help! It'll be much appreciated and theres 10 points in it for anyone who comes up with the solution, thank you

Take a jumpdrive to a friends house or a public PC or Work PC and DL the uninstaller. Take it home, run uninstall etc.

well for this u have to do a registry tweak and a method we asians usually say "Desi Method" for manually messing up the thing messing with u.

in Start> Run type Regedit and open registry editor

goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software and delete anything which says AVG in the list

now stop all the processes running AVG in Task Manager

Please note that some files of AVG will be hidden in Applications' folder in ur user's folder in Documents and Settings

Find and delete those files (you can search for those files in task manager process tab, before stopping them acrually)

this way delete the whole damn AVG but it wont be removed from Add Remove Programmes but at least it wont mess u up

start your computer in safe mode, go to administrative tools>services and disable AVG's services, there may be two or three. (to disable, right click on the service and select properties...change start-up type to disabled). Restart your computer and try uninstalling again or try downloading the uninstaller thing.

go the the library or a friends house and download the uninstaller there and put it on a thumb drive or cd

then bring it home and run it.

ok, let me try...

if you are running windows xp, then go to start, click run.

type in, msconfig

and a window will show with tabs. go to 'startup'

UNCHECK everything that has to do with AVG... you can see it in the description and location etc.

restart your computer.

then, uninstall that thing called AVG antivirus.

If error again occured, then, i do not know anymore.
