Hi people,

I've got an ASUS laptop with Windows 8.1 installed on it. Next to that, Linux is installed.
Now I want to reset my Windows because it's giving a BSOD with the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE on it randomly when I'm logged in to Windows.

Question is, can I use factory reset on Windows without affecting Linux in any way?

There's a good chance you have larger issues to deal with. Resetting Windows will remove any modified boot proceedures unless you made a custom restore image.

As for kernel check error, update all your drivers, update bios, and check for viruses, throw in sfc /scannow after that, and if all those fail attempt a reinstall. Just know that if those prior methods don't work the reinstall isn't likely to help either.

Depends on whether you are using the windows bootloader or the Linux bootloader. If you are using the Windows bootloader just pop your installation media in and do a recovery. Make sure to backup the boot information just in case you have to tell it that there is another OS installed.

If you are using the Linux boot loader you'll need to lookup up the instructions for dual booting it into windows. The issue here is that during the recovery process Windows might write itself into the MBR. You'll need to figure out how to either prevent that or fix it once it happens. I haven't setup a dual booted system in a while so don't have that info off the top of my head.

Do you really "need" windows? Why fool with it.

I have an Asus K52F....it originally came with w7. I had no issues going back and forth from w7 to w 10 with Linux on mine.

If yours originally came with w8...then you "may" have issues because of the secure boot UEIF- or what ever its called.

Windows is always the problem.....I just dumped it. My Asus runs like a top.
