Does anyone know of a downloaded compatible with Mac Computers that downloads AVI files?

Question

I have video downloads I would love to take from AVI to MPEG4 files for my IPod classic. I first need to download AVI files correctly otherwise I will have seconds rather than minutes of download video time. Anyone who knows if there is a compatible downloader for AVI files for Mac would be great to hear from. By the SWReg and Wondershare programs I've already purchased. I need something beyond this. It depends on where you're downloading the files from. If it's a website, just click the download link. Downloading a file is downloading a file - the format of the data in the file (the file type) doesn't matter when you're downloading it.
