I would like to open Openoffice writer and other openoffice applications from the "run" command line of Windows XP. When I type in "swriter" I get an unknown path error. I have searched google, but am obviously not asking the right question. Would like to know the right run commands for other applications too.

You need to make sure that the Open Office install directory is in your PATH

goto "system" control panel..there's an option for setting environmental variables (PATHs) etc..

then you can start -> run -> swriter etc...

1. Go to the location the program is installed in C:\Program Files\

2. Find and create a shortcut for the OpenOffice exe

3. Rename the shortcut “swriter”

4. Then drop the shortcut into C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT

Test it out by pressing Windows Key + R to open Run and typing “swriter” and hit enter.
