I presume you have tried to click again on the B and U to take off bold and underlining, and also on the downward arrow to the side of the font colour icon and changed it back to black, but remembering of course as you have already typed the data, you need to highlight it for the effects, or rather to take off the effects, to work. If this still does not work, have you perhaps gone the long way round and changed the settings by default? If so, back to Format on the Menu bar, Font, and change it back to normal there so it will always be black regular type in future unless you click on the toolbar icons.

Your normal.dot file may be corrupt or maybe your font default is set to those strange settings. Close Microsoft Word. Search for the normal.dot file and delete it. Open Microsoft Word. It will rebuild the normal.dot file. If you are still getting the strange default settings, create new default settings by opening Microsoft Word, click on Format, then Font. Once this dialog box is open, choose the font style you desire along with no bold and no underline options. Then click on Default. You will be ask if you are sure you want to change your default settings, click yes. Close Microsoft Word, answering Yes to any boxes that ask to save the normal.dot template file. Reopen Microsoft Word.

Hopefully one of these will fix the problem.

In Word go to Format, Font. Set things the way you want then click the Default button (lower left of the card) and then click YES.

Goto start menu, to control panel, to programs and then click on 'microsoft office' and when the options come up, click repair. This should repair the Word. Sometimes problems like this are encountered because of faulty add ons.

If you have Word 2002 or 2003, then on the Reviewing toolbar, turn off Track Changes, and click on Accept All Changes In Document.

If you have Word 2007, then click on the Review tab, turn off Track Changes, and click on Accept All Changes In Document.

go up to the menu bar and click the drop down menu called "format". scroll down to "font" and click on it. next, under "font style" click "regular", and then go to the drop down box called "font color" and click on "automatic".

if its still red, click "black" instead of "automatic".

after that, if you're still having problems, go to a different document that has the format you want and copy its format into your document.
