Windows 8 pro / upgrade.?

Ok, I recently purchased a new computer, custom built by someone at a computer market ( which is on every Sunday ). Now when i purchased the computer he installed windows 8 pro on it for me, and told me to go home to activate it. I thought this was because you needed an internet connection to do it. I took my computer home, tried to enter the authentication key i had, however the version he gave me is an upgrade authentication key, ( going from win 7 to win 8 pro ie). Now my issue is my computer is brand new, never had an operating system on it before, so the upgrade authentication key is invalid.
Now I went back to the guy today, and he pretty my refused to refund me anything, or help me. His response was to call Microsoft and lie to them.
I went to JB-HI-FI on the way home to ask what options i have, the guy told me that i need a new installation Windows 8 pro version with an authentication key, i'm happy to pay for it just to get my computer operating correctly.
Can someone please advise me of what to do, or give me link to the correct version of Windows 8 pro i can buy online and just use the Authentication key. Please help me, my head is hurting just thinking about this frustration, over a computer :(

This is a pretty easy fix. Sign on to Window 8.

Win + X to open the quick access menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Click Yes on the UAC dialog if it appears.

Type the word regedit and press the Enter key. The Registry Editor will open. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/ Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/

There will be a key there by the name of MediaBootInstall.

Double click on MediaBootInstall and change its value date from 1 to 0. Close the Registry Editor. Go back to the Administrator: Command Prompt window.

Type: slmgr /rearm

Then press the Enter key. Restart your PC after you get the completed successfully message.

After you sign in again, go to Control Panel (Win + X) and in the search box type Windows Activation. You'll see a link to Windows Activation. Give that a click and enter your product key again and Windows 8 Pro will activate.

Another method to do this to to sign in to Windows 8 and then put in your Windows 8 Pro Upgrade DVD and tell it to do an upgrade installation. When it detects you are upgrading a Windows OS the product key will activate your copy.

If you don't have a copy of Windows 8 Pro on DVD then you can download it from the link from Microsoft.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only

The setup program from that link will download the Windows 8 Pro ISO. From there it will give you the choice of creating install media on either a DVD or USB memory stick. You can then use your install media to do the upgrade install.

Of course, you can buy the product key from the microsoft official shop http://store.microsoft.com

Why not choose a Microsoft Partner at low cost to get the new window 7 key?

such as www.bestbuy.com ** www.oggus.com **

Perhaps it will help you and others.

I want to thank Sara here, she has won my business and I'll be posting my experience to you and others.

My old computer crashed days ago. I had to buy a new computer. It costed me much.

My budget was not much. To purchase a Windows 81 key from MS was not enough. Then I went to Tomshardware, and one guy recommended http://www.key4vip.com/ to me. Their price did attract me. So I decided to try after several emails to Sara. She was very patient and answered clearly to all my questions. I receved the key immediately after I sent 49 bucks. It worked perfectly. I was very very satisfied.

I'll be buying from http://www.key4vip.com/ from now on as well.

the easiest way to get the key is to buy it from ms online store, right? but it is a little expensive

my friend recommended stronglyhttp://www.windowspremiumkey.com to me, and i visited the site. it looks good. however, i don't buy anything yet as i don't need it at present. in the future, i may buy one there.

maybe you can try, and let me know whether it works. XDDDD

Report him to the Police next Sunday just before he opens.

And, show the Police the Bill of Sale.

This is fraud, and let Microsoft know, too.

So..

I recommend to clean up the register in order to improve your pc performances and get rid of malwares. A good program you can use is CCleaner http://j.mp/UrADby

It's the best choice.

Hope it helps.

The best, most solid solution to your problem would be to go to a retail store and just buy Windows 8 Pro, with the media right in it's box. Call a few local stores, like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and other places, to see who has the best price.

Alternatively you could simply order the media. (not a download) Which is basically the same thing you'd get off the shelf at a retail store. The actual media, in hand, with it's own box.

Reporting this person who sold and charged you for what is likely an illegal copy of Windows 8 Pro upgrade, is also probably a good idea.

In the source are a few links where you can purchase Windows 8 pro online, for a reasonable price, compared to retail stores.

Hi!

I discussed your problem with a live Microsoft expert and you can see the discussion below in the source section for this answer. To summarize, if you want to use Windows 8 Pro, you have to install XP, Vista, or Windows 7 and then upgrade using your authentication key. To buy it on line use this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_Hero_ShopHP_FPP_Null

Microsoft does not sell Windows 8 Pro. They sell only upgrade version for which you must have already installed a legal version of XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
