I went on the kde.org website and they led me to links to "mirrors" in which I can supposedly download KDE 4.4 but the problem is, I'm a Linux newbie and what am I supposed to do with the downloaded source codes? Or like there an easier way where I can just download and install without having to deal with downloading all of the source codes and stuff? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Ubuntu will install the gnome desktop as the default and kubuntu will install kde desktop as default.

If you look at the options on your login page you should be able to tell which desktop is available to run on your system. Also at the very bottom left corner of your screen kde will have a large capital K that you click on to get to the menu. Gnome will have a large footprint.

If you have gnome and want to to install the kde desktop you simply need to open synaptic the package manager and install kubuntu-desktop. See the first link. In general the first place to go to install ANY software in ubuntu is synaptic. See the second link.

Good luck

Welcome to Linux. We don't need to download code off of websites for 99% of the things we need. Open your package manager and search for "KDE". Then install that package. If you're using Ubuntu, install the Kubuntu-desktop package. That will install KDE plus everything else you'll need.

http://www.kubuntu.org/ uses the kde desktop enviorment. http://www.xubuntu.org/ used the xfce desktop enviorment.

You would just download the iso file, burn it to a cd and boot it up then install it.
