At a certain row, it moved into the next page leaving a large space at the end of the first page. I am trying to drag it up to fill the space but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

this is a real problem but it can be beaten.

try this

1 set page setup margins to 1cm all round and apply to whole document (look for this section only / whole document before clicking apply).

2 click Insert > break

ther you have page break that sometimes by insertin a page you can drag things then place curser in top of page and backspace or delete to get rid of unwanted page.

3 column break will break the table

4 new page is good to split formatting between sections. eg portrait pages then new page for a landscape then new page for more portrait etc

5 use headers and footers to your advantage, you can have unique headers and footers, and they can be as big as you want . you position them in the page setup where yopu did the margins.

6 use windows help F1 key

7 rightclick the highlite swipe >cell alignment is handy

8 right click pictures >format choose square >centre left or right and type in a size eg 7cm and remember it to size them all the same.

Well, there are many possibilities as to why.

Normally, the table is broken like that because there isn't enough space for the next line on the original page, so the table moves it automatically to the next page.

Depending on what you want to do and what you are doing, you may be able to keep the table together by using the paragraph function. Select the entire table, go into paragraph (on the toolbar or up in the format menu) and set the "keep lines together" and "keep on same page" options. this will only work, of course, if the table doesn't go longer than one page even when all alone on that page.

It also will likely make the entire table move to the next page. that may work for what you are doing, or it may not.

Maybe increasing the page size under page setup will allow the entire table to stay on the same page too. or maybe you can go under the table menu and format the table so the lines have a fixed height, allowing the table to keep together. Or maybe change font size of the items in the table (make them a little smaller). A lot of options that could maybe fix your problem, but it is hard to say without actually playing around with it myself.

Ironically, I think this happened because you didn't have "Allow Rows To Break Across Pages" set for the table. Try this:

In versions of Word prior to Word 2007:

1. Click in the table.

2. Click the Table->Select->Table menu item.

3. Click the Table->Table Properties menu item.

4. Click the Row tab.

5. Check the Allow Rows To Break Across Pages.

6. Click OK.

In Word 2007:

1. Click in the table.

2. Click the new Layout tab on the Ribbon.

3. In the Table group, click the Select->Select table menu item.

4. Also in the Table group, click Properties.

5. Continue as in Step 5, above.

Hope that helps.

expand your page margins. It will split when iot hits the margin. If you expand the upper and lower page margins it will be more likely to fit.

If it still wont fit, shrink the font and the cells until it does.
