Okay I'm getting really pissed off because I can't find a way to disable it. The "Disable on-access scan" from the right click menu is greyed out, and I get "Access is denied" when I try to end the process from Task Manager. Also, McAfee still scans files I exclude, and all the settings I change from the console goes back to default after some time.

How do I disable this cruddy thing without uninstalling it??

By default, the copy of Mcafee Virus Scan 8.5 comes configured to prevent Virus Scan services from being stopped. This is a safeguard against viruses stopping McAfee services and disabling Virus Scan. However, this also causes the "Disable On-Access Scan" menu item to be grayed out when right-clicking on the VShield icon in the system tray.

To turn this feature off and enable the menu item:

* Download and install the latest version of Virus Scan 8.5 over your current version.

http://www.mcafee.com/us/small/downloads/

* Right click on the VShield icon in the system tray and choose "Virus Scan Console".

* Right click the entry for "Access Protection" and choose "Properties".

* Un-check the option for "Prevent McAfee services from being stopped" and click OK.

* The "Disable On-Access Scan" menu item should now be accessible when right-clicking the VShield icon.

The latest version of Virus Scan 8.5 is necessary because it resolves a bug that prevents the menu item from being enabled even though the above option is turned off.

There are many different opinions about the best antivirus available. I tried a lot of softwares and in my opinion the last version of Avira antivirus is for sure the best. This is the website where I've downloaded Avira for free http://bitly.com/1mO6LNm

Since I installed it, I never had any type of problem with my pc
