How am I supposed to use Recovery console if I cant get into windows. Or boot from disk if there is an error?

So I cant load windows xp home edition because it says there is a registry file failure and it can load the Hive (file)

So I found out that I need to run the Recovery Console tool and the only way I have been able to see how to do that is by getting into windows is to do that. I cant get into windows the normal way or by going into bios and loading from windows cd. It says cannot boot because it doesn't recognize the disk. I even changed the cd drive. Any help would be much appreciated

If you did not make backup copy of installation CD, this is how to make it bootable if your CD is still readable.

1. Create folder named XPSETUP, XPSETUPBOOT on C: drive.

2. Download http://www.nu2.nu/download.php?sFile=wxp10.zip file into C:\XPSETUPBOOT folder.

3. Unzip wxp10.zip file then copy proper w2ksect.bin file to C:\XPSETUPBOOT folder( XPHome and XPPro has different file, so copy the proper one.)

4. Download ImgBurn CD Burning software and install it.

5. Copy everything from installation CD to C:\XPSETUP folder. ***Write down the label name of the CD such as WXHOEM_EN.

6. Start the ImgBurn, make the CD Bootable, use the bin file C:\XPSETUPBOOT\w2ksect.bin that you copied in step 3.

7. Add the folders and files in the C:\XPSETUP folder.

(This is 2 step process, adding folders then adding files).

8. Use the label name you wrote down in step 5 as cd label.

9. Start burning. It might ask you to change some settings since it contains I386 folders, allow it to change it.

You will need to borrow another XP disk to get your system working again. It sounds like your disk might not be working. You can ask a friend to burn you a copy...or ask a computer repair shop to burn you a disk..they charge around $10. You will have to use your product key attached to your computer to make it work. Just make sure you get the exact copy..for example...if you have XP pro then you will need a copy of XP pro.
