I have a windows 7 computer. I wasn't to upgrade to windows 8, but I have heard rumours that windows 7 is better. I want to know if these rumours are true. please give your opinion.

If your device has a touchscreen you should definitely upgrade to Windows 8. I recently bought a new laptop and upgraded the hard drive to a solid-state drive, after the upgrade I installed Windows 7 and the touch experience was awful, I also did not like the UI on Windows 7, it was too shiny and old looking for my liking. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it has made my laptop a lot better. In my opinion, Windows 8 looks better and feels better to use. However if you don't have a touchscreen you won't get the full experience of Windows 8. If you are sick if the Windows 7 UI, Windows 8 will offer a nice change. The upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 will be quite difficult though, especially if you have a lot of apps, make sure you have a backup or you have a list of the apps you have installed, you will be able to keep all your files but it will delete your apps. Also, Windows 10 will be available soon and I have tried the beta version of it, and I would wait for that if I were you, you won't loose any data and it will be free.

Do not upgrade to Windows 8.
Windows 10 is coming out latter this year.
Windows 8 has a lot of difference from Windows 7 and people don't like the changes.

Do NOT upgrade to Windows 8.
Windows 10 is going to get released this year (2015), many people tried the insider preview, and think it's great!
The latest build (as of 5/26/2015) is build 10122.
If you don't want to get Windows 10, try Windows 8.1. It's a really big improvement from Windows 8 (Shut down button on the Start screen for example).
This is my opinion. Either get Windows 10 when it comes out (You can also try insider preview build 10122 if you'd like) or Windows 8.1. Either that or stick with Windows 7. Oh, and please don't downgrade to XP! xD
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention! If you have Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, Windows 10 will be free for a year (or a couple months), so don't forget that!

Don't upgrade now - that would be dumb!
If you have windows 7 you will be eligible for a FREE upgrade to windows 10 in a few months. Many people don't like windows 8 and frankly even windows 8.1 is not a pleasant user experience for those used to windows 7.
Now that windows 10 is due to be released it's clear why Microsoft has gone down this route (they wanted one operating system that can run anything from your PC to your smart phone to your games console).
My advice is don't waste your time on windows 8 or 8.1, hold on to your windows 7 for a few months and take the free upgrade to windows 10.

In my opinion I would not have Windows 8. Windows 7 is much better and 8 is the reason they are rushing Windows 10 is to replace both 7 and 8. Personally I think that XP was better than either 7 or 8, but from what I have seen during beta testing 10 is going to be a pretty good system.

My opinion? If you aren't upgrading to 8.1, just stay with 7. Yes, 8 does have some performance improvement. Yes, they made the Start screen instead of a Start Menu.
So what. Right-click/Pin to Taskbar for each start screen tile needed on the taskbar = done with Start screen. Windows key + D = go right to desktop. Everything else works and looks very close to 7, including Control Panel. Device manager has some minor additional details only useful when troubleshooting.
The only other possible thing they might have fixed in 8, that occurs for some games in 7, is the long wait when the game doesn't launch immediately.

NO. NOT becuase Windows 7 is better (it isn't - Windows 8.1 Upgrade 1 is the best, most reliable, most secure version of Windows that is currently available).
But don't bother upgrading becuase in 3 or 4 months time you will be able to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free. If you upgrade from 7 to 8.1 now, you will need to buy an upgrade disk.

In my opinion I would wait for Windows 10 to become available this summer or fall. I like Windows 7 better than 8 but I like Windows 10 better than either one of the above. I am a beta tester for Windows 10 and even though it may be a little glitchy right now it is still better than Windows 8 in my book. So I would for Windows 10.

Windows 7 is good; but it is a desktop OS, there's no point to upgrade unless there's something in Windows 8 you are after.

Windows 7 is good.
Update or Upgrade to 8 depends if you have already then go ahead.

It boils down to personal opinion. Personally, I think Windows 8 is superior to Windows 7 and I would advise you to upgrade.

There's no need to upgrade as Windows 10 will be free to you when it's released this summer.
There's nothing wrong with 8 but there's no reason to pay for it at this time.

Windows 10 is already starting to infiltrate your Windows 7. A nag has been installed as an "important update" which will ask you to upgrade to Windows 10.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you that Windows 8 is a pain. For instance, just to turn your computer off, instead of just going to start and turning it off, you hit the windows button and C at the same time, scroll over to the right and click on settings, find and click on power, click on it and scroll up to your desired method of turning off the computer. How ridiculous is that? That's just one example. And, Oh, there is no Start in the bottom left hand corner of the screen like there used to be. Have fun figuring how to work around that. Windows 8 is clunky and not intuitive at all. I didn't know Windows 10 was around the corner, or I would have waited.

No, in my opinion don't upgrade to windows 8. Windows 8 is good to work on touch screen laptop but on desktop or non-touch laptops, it just sucks blood. Its very difficult to maintain windows 8 as it has many apps pre-installed in it, internet speed is slow in it, it has low compatibility, has a limited access to profile etc. All i mean to say is PLZ DON'T UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 8.... No matter 8.1 or 8.
2015-05-25 09:16:31 UTC
Whatever you personally prefer. If you're happy with Win7, then stick with that, otherwise upgrade. Personally though, I would stick with Win7. I had a desktop with Win7 on it, which worked well and operated the way I expected it to, but I foolishly replaced it with a laptop with Win8/8.1 :( If you ask me, the Windows operating system is getting worse and worse. You can try it and see what you think though, and if you don't like it either, there is such a thing as a downgrade :)

I would upgrade to windows 8 now so that you can upgrade to Win10 soon.

If your system supports windows 8 then you should and 64 bit is better. An your system not then drop its idea. I have recently upgraded and there is no problem. My hardware supported so I did. Just collected required hardware driver and switched to it. I had problem in beginning but I added a new ram in additional port.
Now my HD monitor is providing great appearance, mail-wares are coming less and system is working awesome.

Hi, Both are very good operating systems but they differ in some things :
Windows 8: Good for gaming, huge variety of apps but not user friendly like no start button but a start menu
cant close system apps from top right corner but from top left corner u have to right click the app and click close, not easy to use
Windows 7: Normal for gaming, user friendly, has start button , easy to use
Note : I personally use wn 8.1 and i am very happy with it it is very tough to operate at the beginning but you get used to it after some time so from my experience u should go for 8

Windows 8.1 GUI looks pretty nice but will take you long to learn all of its functionality other had windows 7 is simpler and ease to use. Windows 8.1 has the feature of application that's needs expertise to run.
