Hi i have downloaded Firefox and wondered how you go about opening new tabs for different pages you want?
Also the add-ons, do i download them all?
I'm not sure how to use it completely so would be grateful if anyone could explain how it all works and what i need to download that would be useful to me.
Thanks a bunch..

Well, firefox operates much like any other browser. Pressing the Control key and clicking at the same time should launch a new tab from the link you click (this may be mac specific, so right clicking and choosing Load In New Tab would be the alternate for PC users). Or on both Windows and Macintosh, going to file > New Tab will load a blank tab.

For further data on tabbing and other functions, go here http://opensourcearticles.com/articles/introduction_to_firefox_2

Bookmarks work very similarly to My Favorites on IE, and if you still have that list in tact, you can import that list from other browsers (The same link has an intro to that as well as many other useful features to Firefox.

You will NOT have to install all of the plug-ins. My suggestion is, install the ones you are most likely to use. Such as flash, windows media player, java (if it doesn't already have it), and Quick Time. These plug-ins will cover a vast majority of the media you will encounter online. Only install the ones you need, too many plug-ins, and your system performance when online will degrade when accessing multiple sites (this is also partly due to bandwidth alloted by your service provider as well).

I hope I was helpful, and that you learn to use the safe and secure browser known as Firefox.

First, to open a new tab, you can click Control+T or go to file -> new -> tab

As for the add-ons, there are alot out there, and what you download depends on what you like to do. The add-on's are broken down into sections on the mozilla site, so you can browse based on your needs.

I would highly recommend adblock plus and adblock plus element hiding helper. They get rid of all the banner ads and things that you see when you go to pages. The element hiding helper lets you block just about anything you don't want to see on a web page with a few mouse clicks.

Check out mozilla.org for more firefox info.

Open Firefox Type” about:config “ in the url search window at the top This brings up a box warning you of Dragons Click to say that you will indeed “be careful” You will then get a huge list of lines and columns of goobledegook In the Filter box at the top of this page type in the word " tabs “ You will then get a list of about 18 lines Find the line “browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground“, no spaces... This should have the value “false” on the right hand side to NOT open in new tab. If it has TRUE double click on this line and change the value to FALSE

CTRL+T opens a new tab; CTRL+N opens a new window

or just go to File>New Tab etc

as for add-ons, just download the ones you need - like Google Toolbar or Scrapbook (great for capturing whole pages) or Reminderfox (great for to do and reminders) etc

Lots of ways. First, right click on a toolbar and choose Customize, the drag the New Tab button from the Customize Toolbar window onto your toolbar. Also, to open a link in a new tab, simply middle click it, or right click on it and choose Open in New Tab. You can also right click on the tab bar to open a new tab or undo a closed tab.

I always just press ctrl+t, or you can click on File->New Tab. And as for the Add-Ons, every one of them is completely optional. I do recommend Adblock Plus though.

Hope that helps!

middle click a link will open it in a new tab

no you don't want to download all the add-ons (there's a ton of em)

Ad-Block (or whatever it is) is a really helpful one, so is IEview (just saves you a few button presses). Other than that, just download the ones you think would be useful.

Yes, ctr-t should make a new tab. As for the add-ons, they're not required. You can use Firefox without them. They're just good for added features. If you see one you like, install it.

Firstly under file, then new tab, and with regards to the addons, they are a matter of taste and use. browse the addons, extensions, plug ins, search engines and themes, have a quick read, then make your choice according to your needs and tastes.

Go to the recommended addons section, and browse, I personally recommend the Fasterfox extension, (which can quicken the loading of web pages),

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269

and Adblock plus (which does exactly what it's called,) extension , https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

and last but not least Plain Old Favorites, which will import all your favourites from internet explorer, so you can use them directly from Firefox

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/668

You can also customise your Firefox with a choice of themes etc also

The options to customise your browsing experience are too many, to mention here, but basically you install what you like, then enable your choice in the tools section, above your address bar under addons . restart Firefox. You can always disable/uninstall chosen addons if your not happy with your choices.

Hi,

I found a free download of AdBlock here http://j.mp/1p6oupY

Adblock blocks annoying popup windows and works very well.

Bye Bye

Easy way - position mouse cursor to the right of an existing tab and just double-click.

Right click on the toolbar thingy with back, forward, refresh etc on it and choose customize and you can drag extra things like add tab, new window, cut, paste, etc. Makes life allot easier.

Oh, and.....lol...kitty.
