Question:
How can I delete files in VIsta?
2011-10-16 15:35:31 UTC
There are some picture files I want to delete. I get the message "you need to confirm this operation"
Then User Account Control comes up. Followed by the "error" message destination folder access denied.
Specifically they are sample files from Microsoft Movie Maker. I tried right clicking to change attributes but they are grayed out. Its MY COMPUTER. (GD Microsoft!) Any help would be appreciated.

Turn off UAC and then delete them.

Click start, type UAC in the search box, click on the link that comes up, and change the settings.

Both the XP and the Vista versions of Movie Maker are installed as part of the operating system which sometimes makes accessing their parts difficult.

OK...I took a stroll in the Movie Maker folder in Program Files and the only "Sample Files" I found are the 4 files in the Shared folder that Movie Maker uses to preview the effects, titles and credits. You can't delete these without crippling the program. They should have looked familiar to you;-) If you click on a title animation or an effect one or the other of the sample images appears and whatever you've selected appears on it so you can check out how it looks.

Sounds like you do not have Administrator rights.

Those files may be in use by another program or the folder/file is owned by another user.

If you do have Administrator rights you may need to take control of folder.

Good luck,
