I have .few errors messages when windows starts up. One says "during a scan of files at system startup potential errors in system registry were found". Then one comes up and says "Windows cannot access specified path or file c:\windows/system32\vturr.exe. Then it says it couldnt load it. Then it says something about a buggy application that might make windows unstable. I am in safe mode right now and tried the restore but didn't work. My computer in normal mode is so slow because of this, I can't even use it. Any help or ideas?

vturr.exe is malware (a virus). It sounds like you (or your AV software) has attempted to remove it, but missed an auto-run instruction in the registry. it also sounds like you are extensively infected. I would recommend seeking professional assistance from someone who can interact more directly with your system.

If you feel like you can do it yourself, I recommend Security Task Manager ( http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html )

to identify threats, then just simply google the names of the processes, and you should be able to find details on how to remove the threats manually.

I would suggest that you have been infected with viruses or spyware and your protection software has deleted the beasts but startup traces have been left behind. You could try a fix by going to Start then Run. Now type in 'msconfig' without the quotes. Open the Startup Tab. Scroll down the list and untick anything relating to your problem. Now click apply, click ok. Re-boot your computer. Eventually when your computer boots you will be presented with a new pop-up window - tick do not show again.

To get rid of any remaining infections -

Free - For starters, download, update and run a full scan using SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) http://www.superantispyware.com/

SAS is an exceptionally easy to use application that will remove the majority of difficult Trojans and Worms, not just the easy ones. In addition it has the ability to remove Vundo and Smitfraud infections. SAS can lock your home page to prevent browser hi-jacking attempts.

If possible it is recommended that you load SAS in normal mode but run it in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be started by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. If you are badly infected you might need to run SAS more than once to help clean your system. Afterwards if the only infections now being shown are in System Restore, once you are completely satisfied that you can boot normally, you can either delete the infected restore points manually, or temporarily turn off System Restore to purge the files.

Assuming you have some real awkward infections that persist even after trying all the above I suggest you download a dedicated Smitfraud removal program from:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/desktop_software/desktop_security/smitfraudfix.cfm

If possible run in Safe Mode.

Likewise the dedicated VundoFix:

Good luck & safe surfing.

i think you have to check your pc for possible virus infection. sometimes. certain type of viruses slows down your pc speed and do some harm on your system files like those errors you see on start up...if your using xp you can repair your previous windows installation using your xp cd installer. if it resolves the error, well thats fine... if not. try other option like.... if you're running an antivirus program, update it first and then perform overall scan. if possible in safe mode..if it wont work, scan your drive on another pc with updated antivirus program. note: avoid opening your own data while slaved on another pc, cause you might infect that pc with viruses from your drive. just put it there for scanning. if nothing detected, then you have to re-install your operating system. but before doing so.. please back up first your important data and applications on a separate storage device because you have to fresh- install your new OS. meaning... re-formatting your drive again to restore its original speed. you can also add your RAM if possible.

Try the following in this order

1. Start in safe mode, when it loads Click Start >Run

in the box type CMD

When the black box appears type CHKDSK C: /f

Now reboot

2.Press F8 on boot and select Last Known working Configuration

3. Re-Install Windows but take the Repair Option do this by booting your pc from the CD
