I have a bootable floppy that does a specific job and want to make a CD ROM that does the same job.

Yes there is no reason why you can't use a CD-ROM.

Floppy or CD still supplies the information required.

Would you be surprised that I still use floppies to back off odd little bits?

OK they haven't got the capacity but I would trust them more than any

Flash Drive which are easily corruptible!

A CD ROM cannot be erased or recorded over. You need a CD RW for that.

If you re-ask describing the 'specific job' you may get some more-helpful answers

yep, just make sure the CD Rom is selected before the HD in the bios setup. It normally is.

You can make a usb to boot also. Just create the CD to be bootable when you burn it. Change in BIOS that your primary bootable device is CDROM.
