All my music is in WMP MP3 format. Now however, after 3 years I get a message that reads

WMP CANNOT PLAY THE FILE. THE PLAYER MIGHT NOT SUPPORT THE CODEC THAT WAS USED TO COMPRESS THE FILE.

Please help, I do not want to lose any of my music files, I have 7000 of them.

Thanks a million.

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall WMP. You did not mention what version of WMP you are running!? however it dose not matter as it will roll back to an earlier version. We just say it's WMP 10 you have at the moment after you uninstall it you will dealing with WMP 9. Restart your PC and re install WMP 10, and thats it you will not loose any of your files or folders.

PS. WMP and Internet Explorer Go wrong from time to time and that's the fix for both of them simply uninstall an re install.

An update may have upset WMP, you can download the codec for the files from the web.

Suggest you uninstall your WMP, then download a newer version. For security, you can convert your mp3 files into other formats such as wma for backup. good luck.

I can't believe you've been using windows media player for 3 years! Get Winamp, it's free, and it's better, and it will never give you such an error when trying to play mp3s. (If it refuses to play an mp3 then the mp3 must be broken)

You can get winamp from here: http://www.winamp.com/player

You should use VLC Media player instead. This can play pretty much any file type there is.

Get it here. http://download.chip.eu/en/VLC-media-player-0.8.6i_88754.html
