I was trying to import my old emails onto a new laptop and have managed to delete ALL outlook .pst files. Now outlook will not open. Can this be restored? I am not fussed about my emails from my old laptop, I just need to be able to use Outlook. I have tried removing and re-installing the software. I dont have any personal files on my new laptop as I have had it 2 days and not transferred everything across. Will it be easier to just re-install Windows 7 from the boot disk? Would this solve the problem?

Thanks in advance

Reinstalling office or Windows is way too far beyond the scope of the problem. Easy way is to go to control panel > open Mail > Remove the Outlook profile. Then start Outlook and configure a new account profile again. #Tip: To import a pst file into an outlook profile you have to open outlook and use the import option.

im not sure what steps you actually did

when you start outlook, outlook has a PROFILE for EACH USER

most people only ever have ONE user profile but if you have TWO

profiles a menu shos and asks which one you need.

once you are in outlook, you can use the IMPORT command

to transfer FOLDERS that conatin emails into your current

profile, or you can just CONNECT the PST file as an ARCHIVE

then it appears in the Navigation pane as an EXTRA INBOX,

OUTBOX etc just as it was on the old pc.

then you can CONNECT and DISCONNECT the archive whenever you like

anyway, to RE-Create a PROFILE you use the CONTROL PANEL

MAIL options.

so on the new pc, DO NOT OPEN OUTLOOK

go to the control panel and CREATE A NEW PROFILE.

if the old one is still there, just delete it

then you should be able to enter OUTLOOK

you may need to re-enter your EMAIL account settings

and run the TEST email to make sure it all works

then just copy your OLD PST file to a nice sensible place like a nice NEW

folder in MY_documents.

then start OUTLOOK and import the messages or connect the archive(the pst)

Outlook is absolutely pathetic. I added an account and wanted to remove it. It didn't let me remove it until I changed the data file. Then it made me create a data file, that I deleted later and now it won't start. I created a new one from control panel and it won't let me delete the old one cause it's copying data from it. It's ridiculous, will these guys at Microsoft ever learn anything? It's sad, this is Office 2013 and it's 2 years later since this question was asked.

Well one reason i that your Email setting is not configured properly so goto Tools> Account Settings> E Mail > New.. create a New Email account by filling up the details Or else when u click on New tick the option that says Manually configure account settings and follow the same it should Help.. It works only if u know the Incoming Server and Outgoing server setting :D
