I'm trying to move a selected area (part of my lineart) over to a different spot, and I can't seem to find the right combination that will actually move it.

It seems the only things that move when I try are either the background or the entire layer the lineart in on rather than just the little area I select.

Please make sure you say what tools I need to use to select and move please. :3 Thank you in advance.

You should use the Path Tool (Shortcut [B] Hit b key on Keyboard), then outline the object completely and hit -Shift + V- which will allow you to select the whatever is inside your outline. Cut and paste it where you need it.

Another thing that you can do which may be easier is using the quick mask (Shift + Q) located at lower left hand corner of main window under vertical ruler, click on the paint brush (P). Change the forecolor to white, and color out the object that you want to move around or copy, (Black will color it back to the mask color and will be used to fix errors). Also use the fuzzy brush. Click (Shift + Q) and cut or copy the image and move it over.

Ctrl + C = Copy

Ctrl + X = Cut

Ctrl + V = Paste

Note: when you cut or copy and object it will be floating, you will need to anchor it, in the layers window click on the little anchor or hit Ctrl + H.

Also it is a good Idea to anchor it under an new Transparent Layer, just in case you make a mistake you can fix it easily.

Gimps a bit fussy - I use Paint.net (google it) as its just a bit more user friendly and its quicker too.

You need to highlight the area you want I use the magic wand (fuzzy select tool) and then change the icon to the arrows (Move Tool) and drag the highlighted bit to where you want it.

Select (any selection tool) then press shift+control+L to float it.... after that you can move your selection wherever. Once it's move go to the rectangle select and tap it on the screen to unselect everything and anchor it back down.
