How do I change the file format of a file on windows vista?

I'm trying to change the file format of a video file from *.mp4 to *.3GP. Problem is, when i rename the file (which is on my desktop), it doesnt change the file format. Instead, it just adds it as part of the name of the file. For example, a file "video.mp4", after right clicking and renaming it "video.3GP", it instead becomes "video.3GP.mp4". Anyone know how to fix this??? Thanx in advance! :)

If you go to Start>Control panel>folder options>view> uncheck the hide known file extensions. Then you can edit the file extension. This won't convert your .mp4 to .3GP though for the record. You need a video converter to do that

As you said, renaming a file does not change the output format. You'll have to convert the file to 3GP format.
