Question:
MS WORD 2003 Page Setup Problem?
2008-02-21 15:15:22 UTC
As I create a new file and use 'page setup' and set all my paramenters, is there any way that those settings can be saved so that I don't have to set them each time I create a new file?
thanks

Page Setup - edit your margins and select Default in the lower left-hand corner of the dialog box. It will ask you if you want to make this your default and select Yes.

You can also change your default Font - Format > Font - and select your new font and select Default in the lower left-hand corner of the dialog box.

These preferences (and a number of others) are indeed saved in your normal.dot file. After you get everything exactly how you like it - toolbars, default margin, default font, etc., I recommend that you make a back-up of your normal.dot file.

Close word and search for normal.dot - located it and save a copy of it to a different location and name it something like normal.dot.BAK - then if your MS Word becomes corrupted or starts giving you trouble, you can just copy it normal.dot back to its default location saving it as "normal.dot" and it will often solve your problem while maintaining your favorite settings!

I think you can set it so it is your 'normal' template. You have to change the 'normal' settings to the way you want them and then it will always show up when you open MS WORD.

I pulled these directions off of the MS Word help section.

The Normal template (Normal template: A global template that you can use for any type of document. You can modify this template to change the default document formatting or content.) opens whenever you start Word, and it includes default styles, AutoText, macros, toolbars, and other customizations that determine the basic look of your document.

On the File menu, click Open, and then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.

If no templates are listed in the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Files of type box, and then click Document Templates.

Double-click the Normal.dot file to open it. To be certain that you're working in the default template, check to see that Normal.dot appears in the Word title bar.

Make any changes you want, using the menus and dialog boxes just as you would to change default settings for a document, but remember that any changes you make to Normal.dot will be applied to documents that you create in the future.

When you have finished, on the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.), click Save .

Note If Normal.dot is renamed, damaged, or moved, Word automatically creates a new version (which uses the original default settings) the next time that you start Word. The new version will not include any customizations you made to the version that you renamed or moved.

Change the settings in Print Properties based on the type of project you are creating. You can open Print Properties from almost any program: 1 Click File > Print. 2 In the Print dialog box, click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup (depending on the program). Print Properties is displayed. There you can set your printer's margins. They should be set to your page set-up. Note: Different programs may open Print Properties in different ways.

Dear friend

it's very simple. Go to file menu than press 'Save As' now here a dialog box opens. give it a name of your choice and and under that in front of type choose save as a template. and press save. next time when your need the same settings. you can open it from that template. or you can go to properties. by Tools >> Options. there under settings. choose your settings. and press make default.

Yes! Set them up, then click on "default" in the corner!
