Personally I'd rather not right click->properties every folder if possible. The DIR command seems to have no logic within it other than listing folders in a current directory. I can't get it to show folder sizes as opposed to individual files. My problem is I view on disk space available as 286GB of 298GB. So roughly ~12GB used. The virus scanner I use scans compressed files so obviously the amount it scans will be greater however it's a little over double. I am just curious if there is anyway to categorize the directory tree based on size (including compressed files and have the option for if they were uncompressed). As the DIR command seems really limited I hope there are more options available. I have a suspicion that the extra size is a restore point or something. I have turned it off because I just format/re-install if I have any problems. If anybody can give any other knowledge to pin-point large directories so I can manage them thanks.

SysInternals has a lot of these types of tools. These are all free, don't require installation and are technically excellent. Disk Usage (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896651.aspx) does exactly what you are looking for.

ultimate click on the folder and choose "residences" for the menu. The window that seems will demonstrate the size, style of archives (and sub-folders) etc interior the folder. by way of fact the advice for a folder is extremely diverse then the advice for a document, it extremely is displayed as a single huge type interior the "length" column.

good click on the folder and choose "residences" for the menu. The window that looks will exhibit the dimensions, form of records (and sub-folders) etc in the folder. because of the fact the suggestion for a folder is particularly distinctive then the suggestion for a report, it fairly is displayed as a single quantity interior the "length" column.
