Linux is better anyways. Why have windows xp ( 10 years old) unless you play video games, like viruses and will slow down your netbook. You just have to get use to it. Every program you want is available for free without downloading from websites using the package manager. You can install windows with Ubuntu but it would mean you would have to install XP first and then install Ubuntu to make 2 partitions which when you turn on your netbook you can select XP or Ubuntu. Also you will probably have to look for hours on end for drivers for XP on your netbook. I say just get use to Ubuntu to get msn type in amsn or emesene in synaptic package manager , and you can type anything from photo editing ( inkscape, gimp) to video edit ( kdenlive, avidemux, openshot, Lives) to studio packages , Office programs like ( Gnumeric spreadsheet, Koffice, Libreoffice, openoffice) all 100% for free. And get compiz fusion if you netbook can handle it you can make your computer look like the 4th of july with the crazy animations.
If you also type in theme example Ubuntu studio themes or download as many themes as possible you can go into appearance and find the themes you got and customize the way your computer looks a 1000 different ways. To make it look more similar style to windows type Nuvola theme is synaptic package manager and select it in appearance. No virus protection and you should be good.
There is a reason Linux is better on netbooks 1. It's faster and not as bloated as windows 2. you get it cheaper as linux is free and so is any program you want. You just gotta get use to it because when I switched from 15 years of using windows it took me 3 months but now I hate windows and realize all they care about is your money and don't care about your security, thats why so much viruses, malware and hacking attacks on it.
I doubt you game hardcore on a little netbook, Linux is a good experience.
