What is the difference between payroll software and a payroll service?
Im a business studies student and wondered whether the only difference is that a payroll service is internet-based? Or is there more to it? Is this the case for all payroll services? Any advantages and disadvantages of each type of payroll managing method would be very helpful. Thank you.

The keyword is "service". Meaning, someone is providing the needs for you. If you sign up for one of the payroll services, then typically you will get everything from the payroll software plus other perks. But you won't be having to load any software to access the service. Simplistic perk example would be 'live help' from a service. The short side is you will pay for the service monthly (usually) whereas with the software it's a one-time cost.

This is just a simple explanation of course. If you need more details then i'd suggest doing a google search on something like maybe "payroll service vs payroll software" and see if more information comes up.

Payroll software is something we called as a well structured code to maintain the payroll system while payroll service means a firm provides the services of the payroll to a accounting firm.

Payroll software - you install the software and you do the input. Payroll service - you submit invoices, the service does the billing and accounting. Some doctors use a service, some hire their own staff to do accounting on the spot. A matter of choice, weighing hiring and firing, providing office space and equipment, as opposed to letting a service do the work. Cost effectiveness also has to be taken into account.
