I'm running windows vista home premium and about a month ago i moved my taskbar from the bottom of my screen , to the top.
Well, I've been using it that way for about a month now but all of a sudden one day it looked different to me.
I think i remember accidentally moving one of the icons off of it or something. because shortly after when you click on the start button, the drop down menu is shifted about an inch to the right.
it used to hug the side of the screen.
here's a photo of how it looks.
any ideas??
I'm really good with computers but this one has got me stumped.
I've closed the explorer.exe task(which is the whole desktop ICONS & ALL), re-ran it.
I've restarted the pc, i've switched to the classic start menu, than back to vista's, i've went to the start menu properties.
It's kind of like a been there done that.
so if you've got any other suggestions besides all of that i'd love to hear them.
Thanks!

also, notice in the picture, i've drawn arrows on the left side of the drop down menu showing you that it should be pushed further against the screen in that direction.

ok, reduce the number of programs that are shown that should do it. :)

Have you tried the customize button under taskbar and start menu? Try to change it to default and see if that works. Sorry if it doesn't. And you should get RocketDock for all of those icons, here's a view of mine.

I'll keep trying to solve your problem so check back.
