Question:
FreeBSD Installation?
2009-06-24 23:43:00 UTC
I've tried like 28 different distros of Linux/Unix, including DesktopBSD and PC-BSD. But for the life of me I can't get a graphical environment up and running with FreeBSD (I downloaded the DVD iso and install it using a VirtualBox virtual machine that has plenty of installation space)

Any quick install steps to help out?

I'm not all that up on VirtualBox but generally when you want to get X up and running you type, as root X --configure. Used to be you could type xorgcfg or xorgconfig but no they don't work on the latest version of the server.

you say you downloaded the .iso file, when you did that you you convert the file to write the boot the file to a disk, or did you just copy the file to a CD/DVD?

you need a dvd ISO burner software package to burn the dvd with, check out the links belows for free software and read how you make a ISO dvd

there are free ISO burning software packages you can download
