It depends on ur purpose.
The gnome desktop is faster and lighter on resources, but the difference is not much noticable in machines with above average configuration.
gnome is maintained by the GNU, and thus has more people working on it, and i hope more people using it too. If u are looking for a fast, smaller and simple alternative gnome would be better.
KDE wins in its look and feel, and also has some really good applications bundled -- the best one(that i feel) is Konqueror, which is a file and internet browser, and can open almost any file. Even though it requires slightly more resources, it really pays for the extra things it use

It doesn't really matter. If you are a Windows user, KDE will probably seem a bit more familiar, and thus a bit more comfortable, but I was a Windows user, and I prefer Gnome now. Try them both out for a while, and see which one you like most.

Linux is nearly a philosophy of OS layout(based off Unix). Ubuntu is the main general "flavor" of linux, each "flavor" works in a various way KDE and Gnome are own laptop environments. Many Linux "flavors" or distributions have been via default textual content cloth based. because of the fact that photograph interfaces grew to grow to be extra general, they designed a pair styles of interfaces for various human beings. KDE has a tendency to be slightly extra in simple terms laid out on an identical time as gnome is extra distinctive format. that is own determination which one you prefer to apply.

They are both good in there own way...it's up to you to decide. I prefer GNOME. KDE is too blue for me! Really it doesnt matter if you use GNOME of KDE as you can use KDE apps in GNOME and vice versa.
