How to rotate text in paint to an angle >90 or suggest a free alternative?

Question

I am trying to rotate text in paint but have found I can only do it to 90, 180 or 270 degrees. For my purposes I need to rotate it to a smaller angle can anyone explain if and how it is possible or suggest an alternative free program that would provide all the other features of paint but include this.

There are many free alternatives to paint, but my current favorite is Paint.Net. It has far more features than paint, is easy to use, powerful, and free.



However, other people's opinions differ. You can look over on Gizmo's Freeware for reviews of several other paint applications, including their favorite, Project Dogwaffle. Gizmo's is always a good place to look for freeware reviews.
