Can someone help me, Convert avi file for burning on DVD,?

I am using AVS to convert avi file into a DVD. But it says that I need two dvds for two 56mins files? What is the best way to do this? Can I burn it to hard drive and use another burning software like DVD dhrink?

First off: All DVD players will play DVD - R it's the standard next is 4.3gb or 8.6gb disc's. take your chose. I always burn my disc at a lower speed (8 or 6 speed)to reduce the chance of creating a dude.
