i have several media files with Japanese and Chinese characters in the file name.

today they all turned into little squares - apparently the font display is all gone.

I have not installed any software or removed any software in the last 2 months as far as I know, and I do windows update as they come recommended.

why is windows 7 so buggy?

In my case it is not. Probably, installing a language pack may fix this problem.
