Microsoft Office Word 2007 Indents Too Much?

When I indent in Word 2007, the line indents like five tab presses instead of one. For example (the underscore is an indent):

Should look like this:
___sdjaf;lksdfjaslfkjdsafl;ask
asdf;lkasjdf;slafkj

But it ends up like this:
_______________l;dskfjasd;lfkjsafalasdf;lk
;lsadkfjs;lakfjasdf;lk

How do I fix this?

I suspect there's an explicit tab stop on that paragraph, overriding the default every-half-inch implicit ones. Try this:

1. Select the paragraph(s) in question. CTRL/A will select the entire document.

2. Right-click in the selection and select Paragraph.

3. Click the Tabs... button.

4. You should see a tab stop defined about where you're seeing the indentation jump to. If so, click the Clear all button. (BEWARE if you're actually using explicit tab stops.)

5. Click OK.

Hope that helps.

from the horizontal ruler, click on the putting indent marker. (it quite is the ingredient that appears like an hour glass...besides the shown fact that it is the backside area) Drag the putting indent marker to the region the place the indent is to start. Key the paragraph. the 2d and next lines are indented initiating on the marker, right here's a shortcut CNTRL+T, then key the paragraph or choose the paragraph to be formatted. hoe this permits.

Format Paragraph should hold the answer. Or you can select the text in question and drag ruler markers.
