before my microsoft word was fine. like when i typed words it was clear. now every time i hit the space a small dot appears in the middle of the gap between the words, which makes it a hell of a time trying read what i typed.

also every time there is an indent or tab an arrow appears.

also every time i hit enter, a...symbol appears.

can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? its very annoying to do work on word.

Thx!!

have a nice day!!

First, don’t worry. None of the characters print.

The dots and arrows certainly are a nuisance, but those strange ¶ symbols are really your friends. They show exactly where each paragraph ends. Since all paragraph formatting (tabs, indents, margins, line spacing, before and after paragraph spacing, ...) is attached to them, accidentally deleting one can cause mysterious reformatting problems. I've found it's nice to know where they are.

If you still want to get rid of everything, do this:

In versions of Word prior to Word 2007:

1. Click the ¶ button on the Standard toolbar.

In Word 2007:

1. Click the ¶ button in the Paragraph section of the Home tab.

But if you want to turn off just the other characters, here's how:

In Word versions prior to Word 2007:

1. Click the Tools->Options menu item.

2. Click the View tab.

3. Under Formatting Marks, select ONLY Paragraph Marks and deselect all others.

4. Click OK.

In Word 2007, do this:

1. Click the round Office button in the upper-left corner of the window.

2. Click the Word Options button.

3. On the left side of the dialog box, click Display.

4. Under Always Show These Formatting Marks On The Screen, put a check mark next to Paragraph Marks.

5. Make sure all the other entries in this section are unchecked.

6. Click OK.

That's it.

These are your hidden characters which although good to look at to check consistency of your spacing etc once you have finished a document and prior to printing it, can be a little disconcerting while you are typing. Simply click on the backward looking p icon on your toolbar or if you are 2007, on the ribbon when in the Home menu and the symbols will disappear.

ok this is very simple if you using 2007 then underneath view to the right a little bit there is a backwards P type symbol, click that and all is well. if your using 2003 i dont remember where it is but the find the backwards p symbol and you'll be fine.

In Word 2007, the shortcut to fix this is Ctrl + SHIFT + 8.

Hope this helps.

It's a feature used to show spaces and space amounts.

There is a button to turn it on and off.

It's right here in the circle shown in this picture.
