To clarify: Is it possible to install a full version of Windows 7 using a copy of Windows 7 upgrade on a brand new HD if I own a copy of Windows XP? Meaning, will Windows 7 ask me for the CD Key of XP during it's installation to validate the install?

The upgrade discs need to see a prior Windows install to go in.

nope, you need to start a windows 7 install from within XP if you have upgrade media, you can't do an "upgrade installation" though. When it comes to the part where it asks the type of install you want to do, select custom and it will allow you to format and do a fresh installation. But again, the install must be started from within XP.

Not so I'm afraid. You could buy Vista and upgrade from there. Or you could just buy a full version of Windows 7 . Whatever edition is the version of Windows 7 you have as an upgrade CD.

go away the living house windows 7 DVD on your workstation and reboot. If an decision pops up asking in case you opt to boot from disc press enter and it will lead you into reinstallation of your living house windows 7. There you may decide directly to do a sparkling deploy.
