To do 2D animation, the only free Mac program I know of is Pencil.

They also have a whole line of ready to use animation figures, clothing, props and other things you can get. Some are free, some cost a few dollars, but you can just use the free stuff if you want. They make it very easy to get started with animation.

I would suggest you look at the website

They have several animation programs, some free, some Shareware, some have a free trial period.
