Question:
How do I print screen video on Mac?

I'm using a MacBook and trying to print screen a frame in a video. I'm playing the video off of a disc and it works fine and all, but when I print screen it the frame of the video doesn't show. Instead I get a black & white checkered pattern where the frame should be; it almost looks like I don't have the authorisation to make a picture.

I've looked around and can't see any answers online, so it's probably something really simple, but I just can't work it out. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Well normally you would use these key combinations for taking screenshots on a Mac:

⌘-Shift-3

Captures the whole screen.

⌘-Shift-4

Captures part of the screen. Once you press ⌘-Shift-4, use your mouse to select the part of the screen you're you want. Press Escape to cancel.

⌘-Shift-4 + Space bar

Lets you to capture opened windows.

Press Escape to cancel.

Screenshots are saved to the Desktop.

⌘-->command

However, print screen usually does not work for hardware-accelerated applications like games. That's why most games reserve a key (or key combination) for making screenshots. You should use that if possible, it will be documented in the game manual/quick reference.

Otherwise, you may need a special screen capture application to make screenshots, such as FRAPS.

Hope this helps :)

Pause the video in the place you want to take the image. Press Command + Shift + 4 at the same time, release them, then hit the Space bar. A Camera will appear in place of your mouse. Hover over the video window, it will highlight blue. (any window you want to take a picture of you can do this with, and hover over the window you want to capture) Hit the mouse button to take the photo. The picture will be saved on your desktop.
