Slow computer, 256 RAM. Using 1024M of virtual memory at the moment.
Virtual mem. is a lot slower than normal RAM. Should I use this program?:

or keep the large amount of virtual ram I got? Which one would make my computer faster? I tend to use like 600Mb of total RAM. Should I reduce my virtual mem. to 512 and use the above app. or should I keep the huge virtual mem.??

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

1. you'd better set virtual memory reasonably

Windows XP always set a big virtual memory for security default, which wastes much hard disk space. In fact, we can set it a little bit smaller to optimize system.

Enter Control Panel/System/ Advanced/ Property/ Setting/ Advanced/ Virtual memory/ Change; you can see the virtual memory setting window. Firstly, make sure which drive letter your page files are on, and then forbid all page files on other drive letter. The suggestion to set page files on other disks but not C disk (system disk) is in order to increase the speed of hard disk and therefore be good for speeding up system. According to Microsoft’s proposal, page files should be 1.5 times bigger than RAM. If you have a large RAM, the space page files taking up is significant. So, I suggest that if your RAM is below 1GB, you can set virtual memory 1.5 times with the same maximum and minimum; if RAM is from 1GB to 2GB, set it 1 time; if RAM is above 2GB, just setting it half of RAM is completely workable. What you have to notice is that if you install big games or software, you must keep a certain virtual memory because they need too much RAM.

2. I suggest that you speed up your computer by o ther ways. Like adding RAM, doing a reinstall of Window, thoroughly cleanning registry, removing junk files, stopping unnecessary and other things to optimize the whole system.

I agree. Ultimatley computers these days require loads of ram to operate. I would say 1 gig could work. However if you ctrl alt delete and look at the performance on your task manager, I can show you ways to utalize what you do have. Look at the memory meter in the performance tab. Every program that you have open or things running in the background all use ram. Even if you didnt physically open anything. The background programs would be the target here. Any service that you can shut off will reduce your ram consumption. Watch the meter as you close programs like say...windows sidebar, or yahoo messenger. Whatever you can safely shut down. Here is a link to a program designed for flight simulator x. Fsx is a very demanding program and this software here shuts down a ton of background programs and processes to free up ram. However you will have to restart your pc after your done gaming or whatever.

Use with caution as with all software like this. I have used it myself and have had no issues. Its not going to shut everything off that windows requires like video drivers or anything. Good luck!

Well first of all what operating system are you running. This could help in my decision. 256 MB just does not work well on modern computers and it is probably time for an upgrade to at least 1 gigabyte of ram. As for the RamBooster. You will not barely see any improvement if any at all. And I would keep virutal memory at as high as possible because just making it lower isnt going to help anymore.

Playing with virtual memory isn't going to do anything. That program is only going to use more memory. Your only option is to install more RAM. It's cheap, just make sure it's compatible with your motherboard.

Delete the system 32 folder. It takes up a lot of space and is generally useless.

you need to buy a new RAM stick, theyre pretty cheap, 1gig is $20
