I need a software which helps you to stamp date on your image file (.jpg etc) for free. Please suggest.

You can use paint or photo editing software like picasa.
Right-click the JPEG image on your computer. Select "Open With," then click "Microsoft Paint." MS Paint loads and your image displays in the Paint workspace.
Click the "Font" tool in the left panel. Notice your mouse pointer changes to a crosshair icon. Use your mouse to draw a box on the image where you want to display the date and time. After you draw the box, the cursor reappears, prompting you to type your text.
Type the date and time you want to add on your image. When you are finished, click the "Selection" tool in the toolbox. Click the "File" menu option, then click "Save As."
Type a new name for your altered JPEG file. Click "Save" after you select a name. This saves a copy of your image with the date and time stamp text.

You can simply edit that image and add date stamp through some free photo editing software like Picasa.
