Question:
Valve Hammer Editor: Blue Screen of DEATH! on close?
?

I can launch VALVe Hammer Editor, use it, and compile maps perfectly fine. My copy is legitimate, and legal, and launched using Source SDK in Steam. But whenever I close it, my computer freezes for a few seconds, and has a 1/2 chance of giving me a Blue Screen of Death. If it doesn't, it pops up saying that hammer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, that error message which asks you whether you should send an error report or not.
I have steam installed in my D:/ drive, which currently has 13GB free space, though it did this when I had about 40GB free, too.
Also, whenever I close a steam game, it doesn't freeze, but after it's closed it comes up saying the same message, hl2.exe has encountered a blah blah... It doesn't instantly close, it seems to wait the same amount of time it did before this error started before this "problem" occurs. I believe it's closing perfectly fine, because it saves any settings I changed.
My computer starts up perfectly fine after the BSOD, but it makes me less motivated to map.
Also, I do not wish to recreate the error to get that code, is there any way I could find it in a log or something, for extra information?
My laptop is an Acer Aspire 6920, running Windows Vista 32 bit. I have 3GB RAM and a 2.0GHz processor.

I seem to get this problem with some other programs, saying they have crashed and need to close when I close them, though nothing in particular, and nothing persistently...

I've also had this problem before I last reinstalled Windows Vista (I think I had a 64-bit system before) just over a year ago.

If i've missed any essential information, just say so.

The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the blue screen of death. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://perfect-your-computer.com to you ! You can scan your pc for free! Good luck!

The Kernel Memory Dump is a file with the technical info on what caused the error. It's not useful for the average computer user. Start your computer in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key until the utility menu comes up. Then use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, then press enter. You can also try restoring your computer to a previous Restore Point from the utility menu.

There can be two issues:

1. Virus (Use AVG free)

2. Corrupt registry (Use Reginout )

I am sure it will help you.
