after doing a windows repair for an unrelated problem with my windows, and of course, losing all the updates. i get an error msg "access denied" when trying to install sp2. it is an hp oem system, and i have been told by hp, that "they dont offer any systems with xp anymore, so that os is not supported". windows techs of course wont help, its an oem os!
anyone got any ideas?
i cant run half of my games, and 2/3 of them run like doodoo!
i cant run ie 7, i cant even download any security updates without sp2!
HELP!
thnks!

I own 3 DELL Notebook PCs: Inspiron E1505/6400, Latitude D620 and Latitude D800 and have upgraded to larger hard drives twice. Luckily they all came with Windows XP and the Dell VISTA upgrade I paid extra $10.50 S&H twice but I have yet to load them.

FYI in order to install Windows XP Pro or Media it requires you to install from an authentic Windows CD and if you're thinking about buying Windows XP OEM CD from Craigslist or elsehwere, I would seriously think twice bec even my authentic original DELL Windows XP CD didn't work on one of my upgrades, and I had to closely work with Microsoft and both Dell (thinking I was okay with Dell Windows CDs and the Product ID affixed to my Dell Notebook) I encountered problems with registration and Dell washed their hands and said I needed to buy their hard drive from them.

Anyway after you do successfully install & register, then prepare yourself for numerous Windows XP updates to download incl the monster SP2...

Hope the Above Info Helps and Best of Luck!

Frankly though if you have access to another PC with burning software like Nero and a cd burner then slipstream SP2 into your XP disk and save yourself the hassle. Instructions here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm
